What a perfect day! Romain is a sommelier who will let you experience the area in a most relaxed way. He takes care of everything and the day is so well planned. We visited vineyards, wineries, had an amazing lunch, and learned so much about the process of wine making. We recommend this tour and can honestly say it was a highlight of our trip to Provence. We were on a Viking Rhone River cruise (docked in Avignon) that offered an afternoon excursion to Châteauneuf-du-Pape but we realized it was really only visiting one winery and it would be very crowded. So we chose to take this small group wine tour with Romain. What a great decision it turned out to be! We easily walked from the cruise dock to the meeting point (next to the Popes Place) at 9am. Romain welcomed us and whisked us away in his comfortable van. Our first stop was a vineyard where we learned about the soil, winds, light, history, and the way in which the grapes/vines are cared for. We then went to several wineries where we were the only 6 people tasting. Romain was our guide and our Sommelier at each location which was terrific. At lunch he had made reservations at a delightful hill castle. He was thoughtful to separate us into tables with whom we had travelled with. This was appreciated! The meal was delicious and the scenery superb. Then we proceeded on for an afternoon of more wine tasting including a stop at his cozy tasting room/Cave in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. We also stopped at the castle on the hill which was the Popes summer residence. We enjoyed each aspect of the day and cannot say enough good things about Romain and his assistant. When we were at dinner that evening on the cruise ship, it was clear our day had been a thousand times better than the excursion through Viking. We not only had a sommelier as our tour guide but we visited several wineries not available to others (Romain has a wonderful relationship with wine makers in the area) and had a magical lunch. Thank you Romain for a delightful day!
