Carpentras is situated in Vaucluse at the foot of the Mont Ventoux (highest moutain of Provence) and part of the Provence region.
Papal land between 1229 and 1791 the city has a typicall Provencal architecture with its house facades made with ocher, narrow streets and fountains.
Carpentras and is weekly market is surrounded by a lot of farms where some of the best fruits and vegetables of Provence are produced.
It is also the city of a different kind of black gold, the black truffle. Every winter a market take place every friday between November and March and celebrates truffle.
Carpentras was also the capital of the old Comtat Venaissin where the popes of Avignon was frequently coming.
